staying grounded

February 16th, 2010 · 1 Comment

A great means of staying grounded is by doing something you love that doesn’t require too much thought. Light reading and knitting rank right up there for me. I just finished The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows, and loved it. What a lovely, lyrical read. Just what the head doctor ordered.

The knitting is also something light and simple–I used two strands of Sugar and Cream Cotton (Over the Rainbow colorway) held together, casted on 50 stitches with size 6 needles and knit garter until the end of the yarn. This resulted in a 12″ x 8″ rectangle that is perfect as a cushy placemat for my dog’s water dish and food bowl. A mindless, yet meditative project. So medtative, in fact, that I just might have to make another. :)
