This week I had the privilege of taking a pmc (precious metal clay) class taught by local artist Kay Seurat. After falling in love with Ms. Seurat’s work last year at Boise’s Art in the Park, I’ve been looking for classes on beginning PMC. ‘Lo and behold–there was a class, and it was taught by the jewelry artist herself!
The class entailed two evenings of creative delight at Ms. Seurat’s studio with four other women, and it was so much fun I can’t wait to do it again. And again. Want to see what I came home with?
A wonderful little pea-pod pendant - it’s about 1 1/2″ long, and is pretty heavy. I absolutely love it.
I also came home with a bracelet whose charms, toggle and clasp are all made from PMC, held together with sterling silver jump rings and various beaded components. I was so disapointed with the charms when I left class on Monday night, before they were fired. Even after seeing them fired and all silvery-shiny on Tuesday night I still wasn’t that excited about them. But after dipping them into a smelly Liver of Sulfur solution, which turns them black, and then scrubbing off most of the black color with Comet cleanser—I LOVE it! The patina made all of the details and depth of the designs jump to life.
Ms. Seurat is holding another beginning PMC class in September, and I was all set up to take it, until finding out that my car is in need of a $250 repair. Ah well. Such is the life of a starving artist-wannabe. Heh.

Beautiful pieces. I’ve wanted to try that for a couple of years. But I’ve got too many irons in my “fun” fire.
