what to work on?

June 25th, 2009 · 9 Comments

Calling all opinions! Here’s the deal — I’m going on a road trip this weekend, and there will be LOTS of knitting time. What do I work on?

#1 - Existing Storm Water Shawl kit from Handmaiden that I’ve been working on for over a year. It’s beautiful, but never seems to end! (Apparently I have lace issues.) The yarn is Sea Silk, and is a joy to work with.

#2 - Start a pair of socks with beautiful sock yarn from Wooly Wonka Fibers in the Wood Duck colorway. (I’ve started several pair of socks in the last few months and never seem to be interested enough to finish them.)

#3 - Go to the yarn shop and get yarn for the Neck Down Pullover Tunic #9726 from Knitting Pure & Simple. I’ve had the pattern for years and have never made the sweater. I love, love, love the three handmade sweaters that I have and wear them all the time during the winter months.

When you don’t know what to do, you bring it to the blogosphere, right? :) Ideas? Opinions? Anyone?

My inclination is to start both new pieces and keep the lace, too. When the lace gets to you then change to sock knitting and when that’s boring you can turn to the sweater. That covers knitting for all situations and your various personalities !

If you have the space for everything, I agree with Margene. But if you don’t want to take that much with you, then I’d go with the socks and lace.

finish that stole.,.. it is fantabulous…. the colors are so rich and beautiful….. the texture is so luxurious it makes you want to strip right down and wear it butt naked…..

all that to say I vote for the stole……

The neckdown pullover! You will love that thing and wear it to death, and those sweaters knit up very fast. I love KP&S patterns! (make it longer than you think you need, though — that is my new mantra. Everything seems to turn out too short for me! What is up with that????)

Sweater! And pack the lace - just in case.

Thanks, everyone! I bought some Plymouth mercerized cotton yarn, a Sirdar vest pattern (because it’s so dang adorable), and I brought along tools for socks AND the lace shawl. We’re on the road now with a carload of knitting!! WOOT!

Late to the party (as usual!). Gotta say I loved Heidi’s comment. Bet Steve did too!

I’m late as well, but I agree with margene in that I think different moods/levels of energy call for different sorts of patterns. Therefore, multiple WIPs are justified. If I read between the lines in the tones of your project description, you needed to get the yarn for the sweater and start it, too!

Whatever the final decision, enjoy the process and the final product, whenever it may appear.
