For awhile now I’ve been inspired by several crafty bloggers like Michelle of Green Kitchen, whose sewing skills blow me away. So when I came across the Pincushion Challenge, I knew I had to give it a shot.
Julie (BoogaJ, creator of the infamous Booga Bag), is hosting the Pincushion Challenge, where each month you create a pincushion that relates to that month’s theme. The theme for July is Flowers.
I used the pincushion tutorial on Whip-Up, using two different cotton fabrics, and embellishing the top with two colors of felt and a blue button. Here’s a view of the pincushion from the top — it’s sitting on my in-progress Ribby Shell.
Here’s the bottom of the little cushion—I don’t much care for the button, but that’s why this is the BOTTOM. ![]()
To make it look a little more funkily handmade, I stitched around the edge with a strand of cotton craft thread.
Here’s a close-up of the edging. I really like how it turned out, and am excited to hear what the theme for August will be.
In other news, this weekend I’m packing up my spinning wheel and my spindles, and am heading to Salt Lake to meet Margene! The lucky grrl is going to Rhinebeck this fall, and I’m more than likely not going to go, so I’m going to give her some hugs to dole out for me while she’s there. I can hardly wait to see her — I feel as if we’ve been friends for years. Isn’t it wonderful how that happens from time to time here in blogland?

Girl, I’m not trying to poke at you or anything, but you are one megatalented tomato.
