project hunting
Last year at Rhinebeck I was lured into the Brooks Farm booth by several wiley knitters, and this is what I bought. Five hundred yards of Duet, a 55% kid mohair/45% fine wool blend. This stuff is pure wooly heaven. So I've had this gorgeous skein for almost a year now, and haven't yet found a project for it. Since I've only got 500 yards, there are limitations. So, I come to you, the wonderfully resourceful knitblog community. Do any of you know of a stole or wrap pattern that only takes up to 500 yards? As Margene promises me, Fall is coming--and I'd love to have a beautiful olive wrap to take away some of that autumnal chill.
Note on Berroco Suede: This week I made a quick lunch-hour trip to Craft Warehouse in search of 5 balls of Suede for this beautiful bag pattern. Imagine my surprise when I saw that the price is $9.99 for a 120 yard ball. I left the store without any Suede--I'll search eBay and/or wait for a sale. I'm not scratching this project from my "to do's", rather---I'm just moving it to the list labeled "to do - later".

I had sticker shock about Berroco Suede, too. I wanted to do that Oakley shawl. Forget it! Too pricey for such a little thing.
You could do a Bias Stole like the one I did with 500 yards. It's extremely simple -- all garter stitch on big needles, decreasing on one end and increasing on the other, every other row. I'll find out how many stitches to cast on if you're interested. Funny, I was just looking at MY two hanks of that stuff last night.
They had a Clapotis made up in Duet at Stitches last week. It takes about 600 yards, but you could just do a shorter version. A friend is using her Duet for it.

I hope lots of people send in their ideas, because my Duet (and it's cousin, Primero) are doing the same things yours are.
That Suede is pricey! The green mohair should be a nice project to get you by for now. Can't wait to get to my Brooks Farm later this winter.
This ebay seller has the Berroco suede for $7.50 plus free shipping. I ordered some yesterday for that cute bag!

PS - I just checked at my LYS and the Suede is $10.00 - ouch. But I was thinking doesn't Lion Brand have a "suede" out?
I haven't seen the Berrocco Suede yarn but LionBrand has a Suede yarn which is pretty nice. It's about $5 a skein I think, maybe a little bit more, and would work up nice in that bag pattern.
Thanks for the birthday wishes. She is just getting too old for me. 11 going on 30!
Love that yarn color! I passes up a lime, bright neon, skein at Stitches. I didn't see it when I was buying and wouldn't open up the purse for it later. Should have bought it!

Hi Gibster - try this link for a pic of a scarf made in Duet - there is a link to the freebie pattern there as well.

What "weight" is the yarn? Do don't lace, do you? You could get lots of mileage out of a lacey pattern, going a few needle sizes over what is recommended for the yarn. Of course. Real purty stuff though. ::sigh::
