not just another bag

Summer is almost over already. How did this happen? The days and nights run into each other, and a calendar must be consulted to figure out what day it is. It's like the prelude to that soap opera, "Like the sands through an hourglass...." If we could just mellow out, take more time, be more kind and patient with each other, and appreciate the little things. Great concepts, but modern life doesn't make it easy. So I knit, or spin. It centers me--brings me back to more resilient place, where the speed of life slows down a bit.

Not much knitting has gone on on the last few weeks, nor has there been any spinning. Maybe that's why I've felt so disjointed. With a teenager undergoing a drug test (negative!), another teen heavily into car racing and registering for college, and men who lead you down a primrose path, only to blast you when you show vunerability, I've never needed to knit quite as much as I do now.

So what's out there? What projects look fun, satisfying and are actually usable once they're finished? I've keep an eye out on the blogs, and while I admire other's work, nothing has really hit me until I got the recent KnitBits Newsletter from Berroco. This caught my eye.

The Knitting Tote by Berroco, using 5 balls of Suede. Get a load of those sumptuous tassels! It looks as if it feels so nice, and the pattern stitch looks fun, but not too complex to handle while riding in the carpool, or waiting in line. I can see this being a great shoulder bag with a long leather handle. Oh yeah, baby. Some women can't have enough shoes, this girl can't have too many purses and bags. And this one looks like it's got what it takes to become a favorite.

A quick side note about Blogger comments: One of the things I really don't like about the comments service that Blogger provides is that I can't see the email address of who made the comment. So I've written a little letter to the Blogger improvement crew, hoping that other Blogger users have done the same. In the meantime, I'm shopping for another comment service, so if anyone has a recommendation, I'd love to hear it!

I usually hate all the Berroco designs so this one was a pleasant surprise. But the last thing I need is another knit bag.

I just printed that bag pattern. It is very cute. 'Course the handles are a bit challenging to me. :)

Hang in there. :) And knit on.

I agree, that is a beautiful bag. I like the colour, what colour will you knit it in?

Hey, you take great pictures!

Tell me about the sands. Sometimes I feel like those grains are actually brain cells, slip, slip slipping away.

I don't know how you sleep nights, with that boy in that car.

Of course, check back with me in a few weeks, worrying about binge drinking and promiscuity. And on top of that, I'll be worrying about my son going off to college for the first time.

I loved all the Suede stuff on display at Stitches. Go for it! It makes a great fabric.

LOVE the bag. It would look great with some of your beaded handles, too.
You can tell fall is around the corner. Hugs, sweetpea.
